Consumption of subsidized fuel predicted to drop: BPH Migas

Consumption of subsidized fuel is predicted to decline 2.6 percent to 36.912 million kiloliters (kl) until the end of this year compared to the government-set quota of 37.9 million kl, downstream oil and gas regulatory body BPH Migas has said.

BPH Migas’ head Tubagus Haryono said the decline in the consumption of subsidized fuels is attributable to the assumption that the government has succeeded in implementing its program to convert the use of 988,000 kl of kerosene into liquified petroleum gas (LPG).

According to Tubagus, the realized figures on the consumption of subsidized fuels verified by BPH Migas for the period of January to April has also contributed to the decline. The realized figures reached 12.002 million kl, 3.8 percent lower than the quota of 12.46 million kl, Kontan Daily reported Tuesday.

“Compared to the national quota of 37.9 million kl, the realized consumption of the January-April period reaches 31.7 percent,” said Tubagus in a hearing with House of Representatives members in Jakarta Monday.

The realized consumption of subsidized fuels for January-April period consists of 5.5 million kl of premium or 32 percent of the quota of 17 million kl, 3.203 million kl of kerosene or  32 percent of the quota of 9.9 million kl and 3.3 million kl of diesel or 30 percent of the quota of 11 million kl.
