Construction firm CV Aspirasi Tanah Grogot said that it had not suspended the construction of a Rp 500 million (US$1=Rp 9,500) village road in Batu Sopang district, East Kalimantan, but admitted of the slow progress in the development of the road project, which is being financed by South Korea's coal mining firm PT Kideco Jaya Agung.

The local Kaltim Post daily quoted Aspirasi director HM Amran Kombeng as saying that the company had not abandoned the project, pointing out that there was still some activity in the 3 km road project.

Amran was responding to earlier report that the contractor had suspended the development of the village road.

He said that the development of the project had been slowed down because of the attitude of the villagers.

Amran said that the villagers demanded the contractor to develop seven bridges and water canal, which was not included in the contract.

The road project, linking the Biu village in the Batu Sopang sub district and Lolo village in the Kuaro sub district, is being financed by Kideco's community development program.(*)
