Upstream oil and gas authority BPMIGAS has pushed production sharing contractors to quickly bring their oil and gas fields into production so that the 2004 state budget?s oil and gas production target can be met, Suara Karya daily reported Thursday.

The 2004 draft budget set oil and gas production target at 1.15 million barrels per day, BPMIGAS chairman Rachmat Soedibjo said in a parliamentary hearing Wednesday. He did not mention the gas production target.

?We have coordinated with production sharing contractors to meet the state budget target,? Rachmat said.

The oil and gas contractors operated gas fields including West Seno (Makassar Strait), Matra (Sumatra), Belanak (Natuna), Tunu and Peciko (Kalimantan), Sukowati (Papua) and Ripah (Jambi), he said.

Rachmat said the country?s oil production had shown a falling trend from January to August of this year. (*)
