The government is sending a team of five experts to investigate the accident at PT Freeport Indonesia?s mine in Grasberg that fatally killed three workers.
Technical and Environmental Director at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Witoro S said on Thursday that the team including one mine inspector, one geologist would depart ?this evening?.
A mud/top soil slide occurred from a mountain ridge above service facilities supporting Freeport?s mining operations at 1 a.m. local time. The material damaged a mess hall and adjacent area and killed three contract workers and injured four workers, Freeport said in a press statement on Friday.
?The event did not directly involve operations within the Grasberg mine or PT-FI?s milling operations,? The company said. (Godang)
