Publicly listed company PT Medco Energi International is preparing to test the Gesang-1 well of the Merangin Block in Jambi Province to ascertain whether it contains hydrocarbon.
The firm has drilled the well to the depth of 7250 feet.
?We are preparing to test the well to find out indications of oil and gas. Once the test has been carried out, we shall step to the certification phase,? company director of business development Rashid I Mangunkusumo told Petromindo.Com during his visit to Luwuk of Central Sulawesi.
Medco operates the block with 41 percent interest with a subsidiary of Thai energy conglomerate PTTEP and MOECO, a subsidiary of Japan?s Mitsui Oil Exploration Company hold 39 and 20 percent, respectively.
Separately, Rashid also said Medco and its partner PT Pertamina were waiting for an approval of its mid-scale LNG project in Senoro Toili, Central Sulawesi from oil and gas upstream authority BP Migas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources? directorate general of oil and gas.
Medco and Pertamina plan to build one train of LNG with the capacity of 800,000 tons of LNG in the area. LNG Australia is looking for buyers for the LNG to be produced by the plant.
Rashid also said the plant aimed to cover the possible shortage of LNG output at the Bontang LNG plant in East Kalimantan. (Godang)
