The Minahasa regency council in North Sulawesi questioned on Thursday the whereabouts of the C-category mining tax delivered by gold mining company PT Newmont Minahasa Raya, local daily Manado Post reported on Friday.
The councilors raised the question about the matter during a meeting with the regency?s mining office, the paper said.
The councilors were a bit surprised when officials from the mining office told them they only received the tax starting March. Before, the tax was delivered to the regency?s tax office.
The paper did not specify why the councilors were surprised.
R Mamusung, an official of the mining office, told the councilors that the mining office received approximately Rp 30 million (US$=Rp 11,150) in C-category tax in March.
C-category tax is the tax payable by contractors for the extracted building materials, including sand, stone and others. (*)
