The Balikpapan city council in East Kalimantan has planned to organize a meeting between local contractors and the management of TotalFinaElf over the possibility for the contractors to get projects from the French oil and gas mining company, local daily Kaltim Post reported on Saturday.

Council vice chairman Djiecky Tantono said on Friday they would summon TotalFinaElf?s management for a hearing only if the firm?s executives do not come to the planned meeting, according to Kaltim Post.

Local contractors had earlier questioned why TotalFinaElf had so far awarded its projects to big contractors only.

The company had actually responded saying that their projects were too large for the contractors. It had suggested that they form consortiums to carry out TotalFinaElf?s projects.

TotalFinaElf operates oil and gas wells in Kutai Kertanegara Regency in East Kalimantan. (*)
