CPI to adopt vibroseismic technology to boost output

Thursday, April 20 2000 - 03:00 AM WIB

PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) will use vibroseismic technology in its drilling operation in a bid to boost crude oil production in its old and new oil wells in Riau province, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.

Robin Lubron, the head of the exploration and production of state oil and gas company Pertamina, said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the trial test on the use of the new drilling technology was being taken in Caltex's Duri field.

"The trial test has been carried for four months and the result is quite satisfactory," he said, adding that Pertamina also planned to use the same technology in its own oil wells if the test really showed a good result.

Besides Caltex, PT Exspan Sumatera, a subsidiary of Medco Group, has also used the technology in its oil fields. (*)
