Craig Stewart elected as new IPA president

The Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) announced on Tuesday the new President and Board of Directors for 2015 during its annual general meeting (AGM) held at Hotel Dharmawangsa, Jakarta. Salamander Energy?s Craig Stewart replaces Lukman Mahfoedz of Medco Energi Internasional as the new President of the Indonesian oil and gas association.

?The new IPA Board of Directors for 2015 will take its office per 10 December 2014, after conclusion of the 2014 AGM,? said Dipnala Tamzil, IPA Executive Director. ?Their role is to advocate for the advancement of Indonesia?s upstream oil and gas industry development, along with other key stakeholders. IPA is ready to be the partner of choice for the Government.?

During the AGM, IPA also calls for the new Indonesian Government to implement policy breakthrough that will increase upstream oil and gas investment in Indonesia.

As oil proven reserve and production continues to decline, coupled with total new discovered reserves which are less than the annual oil production, Indonesia is set to become world?s biggest oil importer by 2019. Consequently, IPA encourages its members to participate more in exploration and development activities in Indonesia. In this context, the IPA strongly recommends the Government to introduce new incentives to accelerate and enable robust exploration activity in Indonesia.

?Providing massive upstream oil and gas investment within the next five years is not easy, so the new Government must have the ability to attract good and competent investors to Indonesia by providing a conducive investment climate and timely project development approval? said Craig Stewart, newly appointed IPA president.

?Increasing energy supplies from oil and gas, through extensive exploration and recovery optimization effort, also requires clarity, consistency and certainty in regulations and policies, as well as attractive fiscal terms,? he added.
