Crude tanker catches fire in Kangean PSC

A crude container tanker at Sepanjang field, Kangean PSC offshore East Java caught fire on Saturday morning, leaving at least three workers injured.
BPMIGAS Spokesperson Agus Suryono said the tanker caught fire following an explosion from one of the containers in the tanker where 20,000 barrels of crude was stored.
The fire was put off several hours later and the injured workers were flown to a hospital in Bali for treatment.
The cause of the explosion is being investigated, said Agus, adding that there was no oil spill detected thus far.
Kangean block is operated by Kangean Energy Indonesia Ltd. Bakrie-controlled firm PT Energi Mega Persada has 50 percent interest in the block with the remaining balance equally shared by Japanese firms Mitsubishi Corporation and Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. (godang)
