Daewoo exploits coal in Jambi

Daewoo Securities Co, Ltd from South Korea in cooperation with local company PT Basmal Utama is currently exploiting coal reserves in the district of Bungo in the province of Jambi with production set to reach 60,000 tons per month. Antara reported Monday.

The company launched its first export of coal to South Korea on Saturday, witnessed by South Korea deputy ambassador to Indonesia Chung Yong Chil and deputy governor of Jambi Antony Zeidra Abidin, Bungo district head Zulfikar Achmad and president director of Daewoo-PT Basmal Utama Internasional, Son Bok Jo

Deputy ambassador Chung Yong Chil said the district of Bungo had great natural resource pontentials especially mining resources but no adequate transportation and seaport facilities were available yet

Seeing the potentials, he was optimistic South Korean investors would continue investing in the country especially in Jambi. Deputy governor Antony meanwhile said the provincial government would continue attracting investment from home and abroad by providing better licensing and infrastructural facilities

He said the Jambi provincial administration supported South Korean investors and would export high-quality coal to that country.

Bungo district head Zulfikar Achmad said five investors from home and abroad were currently exploiting coal in the region and shipped their products through local ports

The South Korean company has invested Rp 100 billion to exploit coal deposits in the region and expects to increase production from 60,000 tons to 180,000 tons. (*)
