Power firm PT Pelayanan Listrik Nasional Batam (PLN Batam) has named PT Dalle Energy and PT Medco Energi International to build the 60-megawatt Panaran II combined cycle power plant, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.

President director of PLN Batam, Eri Ifyandri, said in Batam on Thursday that Dalle and Medco outbid eight other bidders in the tender, which was launched on December 5, 2004.

"Under the evaluation of the committee, Dalle won the first rank, followed by Medco in the second rank," he was quoted as saying. He added PLN Batam and the two companies would begin negotiation next week before signing the contract.

Eri said that if the negotiation runs smoothly, the contract could be signed in the middle of next month. Unlike in the construction of the existing Panaran I power plant, the development of the Panaran II power plant would be based on a sale-purchase agreement.

"Under such deal, all the construction works and equipment would be prepared and provided by the investor. PT PLN Batam will only buy the electricity from the investor," he said. The Panaran II power plant will have two units, each with a capacity of between 20 MW and 30 MW. (*)
