Denmark-based firm Vestas, in cooperation with PT Asian Grand Capital and PT Bayu Alam Sejahtera, would build a wind-fueled power plant in South Central Timor regency in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), The Jakarta Post reported Thursday.

The paper quoted Winrock International director Bernard Castermans as saying that his company was currently conducting a survey, especially regarding the strength of roads and bridges, from the regency capital of Soe to North Mollo regency capital of Kapan, the site of the project.

He said the project, worth Rp 71 billion (US$5.4 million), would commence in the next 12 months. The plant is expected to produce 20 megawatts (MW) of power, generated by between seven and 10 turbines.

State power company PLN?s Soe branch head I Made Rai said the development of the renewable energy facility would be favorable to fulfill the demand for power in the province, especially in South Central Timor, because it currently needed up to 13 MW, while only 5 MW was currently available.(*)
