Darwin Saleh likely named as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is likely to appoint Darwin Zahedy Saleh, an economist from the University of Indonesia and a Democratic Party member as the new Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, governmental sources said on Monday.

Darwin will replace Purnomo Yusgiantoro, who led the ministry for nine years.

Another scenario is that Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, who once led the ministry, will be appointed again Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources with Darwin Saleh as Junior Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Darwin is now a lecturer at the University of Indonesia, expert staff to the university's Faculty of Economy, while working for various financial, banking and management consultants.

Born in Riau on Oct. 29, 1960, he got a S1 degree from the University of Indonesia, a master degree on business administration from the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in Tennessee, the United States and a doctoral degree from the University of Indonesia. (godang)
