Daya Radar to build new shipyard

Shipbuilding company PT Daya Radar will build one more shipyard in Lamongan, East Java to double the company?s production capacity from between six to eight ships a year at present, Kontan reported on Saturday.

At present Daya Radar operates three shipyards, two in Lampung and another one in Jakarta. The shipyard in Lamongan is now under construction.

?We hope the new shipyard in Lamongan will be able to begin operation this year,? the company?s Director Amir Gunawan said. ?With investment of Rp 400 billion, the new shipyard in Lamongan will be able to double the production capacity,? he said.

Amir said that with the shipyard in Lamongan, Daya Radar would be able to build a ship with a capacity of between 50,000 and 70,000 dead weight tonnage (DWT), from the shipyard's earlier capability of producing much smaller ships of only between 750 and 1,000 DWT.

Pertamina is one of the company?s main customers. The state oil and gas company has ordered three tankers with a capacity of 3,500 DWT each. The tankers which carry a price tag of US$11.8 million each are built in the company?s shipyard in Lampung. One of them has been delivered to Pertamina. (*)
