The ministry of energy and mineral resources has extended that deadline for holders of mining authorization (KP) to change their mining permit status to mining license (IUP), Kontan reported on Thursday.

Although the deadline had ended on April 30, mining companies which operate under mining authorization (KP) are still allowed to apply for a change in their permit status to IUP, Gatot Ariyono, the director for mining at the ministry said in Jakarta on Thursday.

He, however, did not set the time limit for those who wanted to change their status after the April 31 deadline.

According to him, although as many as 7,000 KP holders have registered for a new license status, many other companies have not yet applied. ?We understand if many companies are still unaware that they need to change the permit as stipulated in the new mining law.

Under the new mining law, existing mining companies should change their mining permit into IUPs within three months after the official implementation of the law on February, this year. (*)
