Denmark companies eye wind farm projects in RI

Companies from Denmark have expressed interest to develop wind power plant projects in 10 locations in Indonesia as the government seeks to expand the renewables sector, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Wednesday.
?Indonesia has wind energy potential of 16,000 MW. They (Denmark companies) are eying 10 wind power plant projects,? Director General of New and Renewable Energy RidaMulyana said on Tuesday, on the sidelines of Indonesia-Denmark business forum, which was attended by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan and visiting Denmark Minister of Development Cooperation Ulla Tornaes, who among others discussed potential cooperation in the development of renewables in Indonesia.
The business forum was also attended by several Danish companies including Siemens Wind Power, Burmeister& Wain Scandinavian Contractor, Vestas Wind System, Dong Energy, Welltec, and Babcock & Wilcox Volund.
Rida did not disclsoe further details about the planned wind farm projects, but said that investors from Denmark have been engaged in two wind power plant projects in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, namely the Jeneponto 65 MW and the Sidrap 70 MW, which are targeted to start operation in 2018.
During the business forum, the ministry also launched the Indonesia Wind Energy Potential Map. According to the map, wind energy potentials in Indonesia are particularly scattered in the eastern part of the country including Papua, Maluku, and South Sulawesi.
Ignasius welcomes the role of Denmark in the development of the renewables sector in Indonesia as the former country has been quite successful in the area.
