State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina has appointed its Vice President for Upstream Business Development, Dennie Tampubolon as the leader of a team that would manage the Mahakam block once the current contract held by PT Total Indonesie and Inpex Corp expires end of 2017.

?We have appointed Dennie Tampubolon as the team leader,? said Pertamina Upstream Director Syamsu Alam to Petromindo.com.

He added that the company is also considering whether to set up a new subsidiary to operate the Mahakam block.

The government finally decided last week to hand over 70 percent of the gas-rich Mahakam block in East Kalimantan to Pertamina when the current contract held by French firm Total and Japanese firm Inpex expires in December 2017. The remaining 30 percent stake is distributed to the latter two companies.
