US oil firm Devon Energy had succeeded in discovering significant oil in Tuban block in East Java following the completion of Sukowati 2 appraisal drilling, according to an industry source Thursday.
The source said the well flows close to 4,000 barrels of oil per day (BPD).
Devon Indonesia president Larry Leavell decline to comment the find.
Devon, which operates Tuban joint operating body (JOB), holds 25 percent participating interest in the block, while state oil and gas firm Pertamina and another US oil firm EEX Corporation hold 50 percent and 25 percent, respectively.
Tuban JOB is currently producing some 10,000 BPD from Mudi oilfield.
EEX and Devon is offering to sell its entire assets in Indonesia including in Tuban for sale. (alex)
