Devon launches public campaign to start seismic activity

PT Devon Energy Bangko Ltd. launched on Wednesday a public campaign to disseminate information to local people about its plans to start oil exploration activity in five districts in Musi Rawas regency, South Sumatra.

The local Sumatra Express daily reported that the campaign was opened by Mura Regent Soeprijono Joesoef, and was also attended by local security authorities.

The paper said that Devon, a unit of U.S. oil and gas firm Devon Energy, would first carry out a seismic survey before oil exploration started. It said that the activity would involve explosives.

The paper said that the company had yet to talks about land compensation to the people whose land would have to be acquire by the company.(*)
