The Directorate General of Mineral and Coal (DGMC) has completed the initial draft of of the revised 2009 Mining Law, which hopefully can be deliberated at the House of Representatives this year.
?The initial academic draft has been prepared by the DGMC,? said Director General of Mineral and Coal R. Sukhyar last week.
Sukhyar said that among of the key issues in the revision of the mining law included regulating the authority of governors in regards to permitting process; better access of state-owned enterprises in obtaining mining permits; and grouping of mining commodities that are considered strategic to the country.
Other key issues included development of downstream mining products to generate greater value added; the establishment of mining council to deal with inter-sector problems; and optimization of royalty so as not to burden businesses which have just started running up.
Sukhyar said that while he expected draft of the revised 2009 Mining Law can be deliberated at the House this year, it would be first discussed with the mining industry players. ?We?re still in discussion with industry players and associations,?
