Domestic gas master plan shows increasing gas consumption

Interim survey results jointly conducted by ministry of energy and mineral resources and ministry of industry showed that domestic natural gas demand for industry sector will reach 1.9 BCFD in 2009, up from and estimated 1.7BCFD this year, Binis Indonesia reported Tuesday.

The domestic gas masterplan, which was presented during parliamentary hearing in Jakarta Tuesday revealed that some 1BCFD of gas this year will be used as feed by fertilizer, ammonia and methanol plants, while the remaining balance will be used as fuel by industries such as steel mills, ceramic, etc.

Domestic gas consumption for the whole sector is estimated to reach 2.4 BCFD in 2009, or increased 10 percent annually.

Minister of Industry Fahmi Idris also said that the government is preparing measures to ensure gas contract to

fertilizer plants would be extended, which will expire in 2007-2008. Fahmi said that BP Indonesia was among producers that had expressed readiness to supply Kujang IA plant after April 2006. he did not reveal the volume (*)
