DPRD summons Adaro and Bapedalda on environment problem

The legislative council (DPRD) in Tabalong, South Kalimantan has summoned coalmine operator PT Adaro and the local office of the government?s agency for industrial impact management (Bapedalda) in relations with the residents? complain on the pollution caused by the company in nearby rivers.

Murhan Effendi, the chairman of the council, said that the DPRD members would try to find out what solution to be taken deal with the environment problem caused by the company.

According to him, based on Bapedalda?s assessment the water river near the company?s coal mining areas are still within the tolerable level. But Murhan said that the local people could no longer use the water river for drinking purposes despite the agency?s positive assessment.

In this case, Adaro and Bapedalda should also be responsible to seek a new alternative for the local people to get their drinking water.

?If it is needed, PT Adaro helps to provide the supply of clean water like what he did in Dahai village,? he was quoted as saying by Banjarmasin Pos. (*)
