(Madrid, 11 May 2017) -- The Duro Felguera, S.A. Energy Division has signed a turnkey contract with the DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) to build a 500 MW gas-fired open cycle power plant at Jebel Ali (United Arab Emirates), about 40 km from Dubai.
The contract price is 204 million Euros and it is estimated that the plant will be operating in the first half of 2019. The scope includes the basic and detail engineering, equipment supply, civil works and the erection, supervision and commissioning of the facility.
DF Energy will add two gas turbines at the emblematic site of Jebel Ali, the main supply source for the city of Dubai and one of the major electricity production centres in the world, with almost 10,000 MW already installed.
DF has selected Siemens technology for this project as it has a long list of references, a solid reputation and recent experience in previous phases of the site.
The trust shown by DEWA confirms that the transformation strategy started by DF Energy over the last few months is bearing fruit, characterized by excellence in the management and delivery of projects.
Winning this contract also consolidates DF Energy?s geographical diversification strategy. The company is still the leader in the power plant engineering and construction sector in Latin America, and at the same time is opening up new markets such as Eastern Europe (the recent contract in Romania), and now in the Middle East. So far DF Energy has delivered over 50 turnkey power plants and has installed over 22,000 MW of power.
The company is currently working on other projects of a similar kind in Argentina (Vuelta de Obligado, an 800 MW combined cycle), Mexico (Empalme II, a 792 MW combined cycle), Chile (Aconcagua, a 77 MW cogeneration project), Venezuela (Termocentro, a 1,080 MW combined cycle), Algeria (Djelfa, a 1,200 MW combined cycle) and Romania (Iernut, a 430 MW combined cycle).
