A joint venture of state oil and gas firm Pertamina and China?s oil company PetroChina has been reminded about the danger of transmitting oil through pipeline via River Bengawan Solo in East Java, Surya-Online reported Thursday.
Members of Bojonegoro regency council in East Java said that oil leaking out of the pipelines would surely contaminate Bengawan Solo, adding that so many people in Bojonegoro consumed the river water and used it for their farms.
JOB-PEJ had planned to build a 10-kilometer pipeline from Pertamina?s Sukowati oil field in Bojonegoro regency in East Java to Soko district in Tuban regency, also in East Java. From Soko, oil flowing from Sukowati field would be transmitted through a pipeline to oil tankers offshore Tuban.
JOB-PEJ general manager Slamet Wibisono said the pipeline project had been planned for completion by December 2003, and that the local administration had approved the project. (*)
