E. Kalimantan sets up task force to accelerate 1,000 MW power projects

The East Kalimantan provincial administration said in a statement on Monday it has set up a special task force to help accelerate the development of a total 1,000 MW mine mouth power plant projects in the province.

Governor Awang Farouk Ishak said in the statement that the planned 1,000 MW power plant projects will contribute to the central government?s plan to develop a total of 35,000 MW power plant projects until 2019.

He said that a number of private investors have announced plans to develop mine mouth power plants in the province. They include PT Jhoswa Mahakam Mineral, planning 2x100 MW power plant in Kembang Janggut District, Kutai Kertanegara; PT Bhakti Energi Persada (2x100 MW in Muara Wahau, Kutai Timur); Toba Group (2x200 MW in Samboja, Kutai Kertanegara), a number of other firms.

Awang was speaking during a meeting at his office Monday with top officials of PT Moa Maju Kurnia Utama, which has expressed interest in developing a power plant project in the province.

Awang advised the company to build a power plant in the Maloy industrial zone in Kutai Timur to help lure new investors into the area.
