East Indonesia to get extra 376 MW

Several coal-fired power plants now under construction in eastern Indonesia are scheduled to start operation later this year, adding to 378 MW to the power generation capacity of the region, an official of state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said.

The plants include the 2x65 MW Asam-asam plant in South Kalimantan, the Barru plant in South Sulawesi (2X50 MW), the Amurang plant in South Sulawesi (2X25 MW), the Lombok plant in West Nusa Tenggara (25 MW), the Kendari plant in Southeast Sulawesi (2X10 MW), the Ende plant in East Nusa Tenggara (2X7 MW), the Jayapura plant in Papua (2X5 MW), the Tidore plant in North Maluku (7 MW), the Ulumbu plant in East Nusa Tenggara (5 MW), Vicker Sinaga, PLN's operational director for eastern Indonesia, said.

Another 15 MW capacity will be added by solar power plants scattered in Sulawesi and Papua.

The Amurang's Unit 1 is expected to complete construction in May, which will be followed by the completion of the Unit 2 in the following three months. The Unit 1 of Ende plant will be completed in July, followed by the completion of Unit 2 in the following three months. (giok)
