East Java administration offers geothermal concessions

The East Java Investment Board (BPM) is offering several gothermal concessions to investors in line with the government's efforts to boost investment in renewable energy sources, Antara news agency reported.

BPM head Tutut Sri Herawati said the board has put the geothermal projects on priority list.

She said that there are 11 locations in the province which have potential gothermal resources.

"For instance in Pacitan, Ponorogo, Madiun, Mojokerto, Probolinggo, Sumenep, Banyuwangi, Bondowoso, and Situbondo," she said

Giving an example, she said an area located in the Arjuno-Welirang region in Mojokerto is estimated to hold goethermal resources able to generate 92 megawatt (MW) of power.

The board will hold tender to develop the Arjuno-Welirang concession, she said.

According to her, the board has hold a tender to attract bids to develop

the East Java administration had tender to develop the Ngebel-Willis concession, which is believed to hold geothermal potentials able to generate 120 MW, but she said did not unveil the result of the tender. (*)
