The East Kalimantan administration is demanding a 10-15 percent stake in the state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina operating in the oil and gas rich province, according to the local Jaya Post daily.
The paper quoted Tuesday local provincial legislator Kasyful Anwar As'ad as saying that the demand would be proposed at a meeting today between the administration and the House of Representatives commission VIII on mining and energy in Jakarta.
Kasyful said that the administration would meet with the House to provide input to the new oil and gas draft law.
He also said that the East Kalimantan administration would also demand Pertamina to also report and consult with the province. Currently, Pertamina only reports to the central government in Jakarta.
The East Kalimantan administration, together with other oil and gas-rich provinces including Riau, Aceh, Irian Jaya and East Java are in Jakarta to provide input for the new oil and gas bill.(*)
