The initiative taken by the East Kalimantan provincial administration to build its own electricity plant to cope with the power shortage in the province has been paid off, local Kaltim Pos daily reported on Tuesday.

Nusyirwan, the assistant of the East Kalimantan governor, said that the province’s power policy did not only help cope with the shortage of the electricity power supply but also won respect from other provinces and the central government.

As part of its policy, the East Kalimantan government has cooperated with private company PT Cahaya Fajar Kaltim in providing power supply in the province by establishing a coal fired power plant in Tanjung Batu, Tangarong with a capacity of 2 x 25 MW.

Although the tariff of the electricity is bit higher than that of PLN, the operation of the power plant has brought much help in coping with the electricity shortage in East Kalimantan, Nusyirwan said. (*)
