The East Kalimantan House of Representatives will not hesitate to recommend a closure against mining or oil and gas companies, which have damaged or have not protected the environment, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.

"Since the start we have been very critical against mining and energy companies which have not observe the existing ruling particularly the environment," said legislator Ridwan Suwidi.

The legislators visited on Monday the land reclamation project of coal giant PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) and the waste treatment facility of oil and gas firm PT Vico Indonesia.

The legislators are also set to visit the waste treatment facility of PT Unocal Indonesia and the land reclamation projects of other mining firms including PT Kelian Equatorial Mining (KEM), PT Indominco, PT Kitadin, and PT Bukit Baiduri Enterprise. (*)
