The East Kalimantan provincial House of Representatives will talk to several huge companies operating in the province to help provide school buses for students, the local Suara Kaltim daily quoted Parliament Speaker Sukardi Jarwo Putro as saying.
"In the very near future, the businesses will be invited to come here. We'll ask them to help provide school buses. We're very concern if the students are unable to be transported by the public transportation," Sukardi said.
The paper said that the list of companies to be ask for the help included oil and gas firm PT Vico Indonesia, PT Total Indonesia, coal mining firm PT Kaltim Prima Coal, and gold mining firm PT Kelian Equatorial Mining.
Hundreds of students have recently held a demonstration demanding the local administration to provide school buses. Public transportation has often declined to take the students because they only pay half price. (*)
