The East Kalimantan province plans to limit annual coal production to 150 million tons from the current level of around 220 million tons to help ensure supply for future needs, Governor Awang Faroek Ishak said.
He told Petromindo.com and Bloomberg Tuesday on the sidelines of the Kalimantan Coal Conference in Balikpapan that the plan was currently being discussed among local government officials.
"Currently, East Kalimantan's production of coal (is around) 220 million ton and we want to put a limitation on that, we should think it for our children and grand children in the future," Awang said.
