East Kalimantan Police Chief Togar Sianipar denied Friday allegations that the police had received money from oil and gas firm Vico Indonesia to curb the activity of the SBSI labor union in the province, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.

Speaking to reporters following a ceremony, Togar said that anyone could always provide assistance to the police.

"If there is a member of the community helps the police, there is no problem with that. But don't take it differently," he said in response to a question that the SBSI labor union had prove that the Police had received money from Vico.

SBSI chairman Muchtar Pakpahan said earlier that the provincial police had received money from Vico. SBSI in fact had prove that 25 policemen received between Rp 1-2 million each.

Muchtar said that he would report this corrupt behavior to the House of Representatives, International Labor Organizaton, and other non-governmental organizations.

Muchtar filed a legal suit earlier this week at the Jakarta court earlier this week against Togar for the detention of SBSI East Kalimantan coordinator Wuaya Kawilarang. The provincial police arrested Wuaya on grounds that he had instigated social unrest when conducting labor strike at Vico site. (*)
