The East Kalimantan Police Chief Brig. Gen. Bahrumsyah said that he would take serious action against people trying to create instability in the province starting with taking legal action against a provocateur allegedly instigating the trouble at coal giant firm PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC).
He declined to name the provocateur.
Bahrumsyah said that the police would bring to the court the particular provocateur and if the police succeeded in putting the provocateur behind bars, the police would continue to take similar action against the other provocateurs at KPC.
"We'll see. If we succeed, we'll continue," he was quoted by the local Kaltim Post daily as saying.
Some KPC employees grouped in the SBSI labor union has staged a protest since June. Recently the employees resume blockading the company's key production facilities causing KPC to be unable to continue with production process and prompting the company to announce a force majeure.
Bahrumsyah said that the KPC problem has an international scope and he feared that such a problem could also occur in other companies.
"If this continue to happen, the Sangatta can be a dead town," he said. (*)
