The East Kalimantan administration is facing difficulty to curb the illegal mining in the region due to the shortage of fund, according to head of the local office of the ministry of mineral resources and energy H. Syahrial.
Syahrial was quoted by the Palangkaraya-based Kapos daily as saying that the illegal mining was particularly rampant in the West Kutai and Pasir district areas.
He also said that the illegal mining activity was located in remote areas so sufficient funding was crucial.
"The central government should help resolve this problem," he said. (*)
