The East Kalimantan youth will support the plans by the local House of Representatives to summon oil and gas firms as well as other large companies operating in the province to get their commitment to contribute more to the province.

Head of the local KNPI youth organization Zainal Arifin said that it's been the people's aspiration that the large companies should contribute more to the development of the local economy.

Zainal said that the parliament should cooperate with the local administration and universities to create a more effective pressure to get the large companies to implement a more concrete action.

"We must work and cooperate to develop East Kalimantan," he said.

The local parliament has said it would summon several huge companies operating in the province including oil and gas firms PT Total Indonesie, PT Vico, PT Unocal Indonesia, PT LNG Badak and mining firm PT Kelian Equatorial Mining and PT Indominco. (*)
