East Kutai assigns Sucofindo to audit coal export, production

The East Kutai administration in East Kalimantan province has assigned the state-owned surveyor firm PT Sucofindo to audit the coal production and export of coal mining firms operating in the regency.

The local Kaltim Post daily quoted East Kutai Regent Awang Faroek as saying last week that an agreement between the two sides had been signed recently in Jakarta.

The paper said that the audit was necessary amid suspicion of discrepancy between data reported by the coal firms to the government and the actual export volume.

Coal mining firms are required to pay royalty to the government based on their coal production level.

The paper said that the audit would affect coal mining firms PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), PT Kitadin, and PT Indominco Mandiri.(*)
