East Kutai Regent receives strong support for another term

East Kutai Regent Awang Faroek received another support from thousands of people of the Bengalon sub district in East Kalimantan to be reelected for another term until 2005, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.

The paper said that the Bengalon people expressed their support for Awang during a visit to the area to launch several projects including the Rp 12 billion (US$1=Rp 8,600) community development program of the giant coal mining firm PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC).

The paper said that several sub districts had also earlier expressed similar support for Awang.

During the visit, Awang also handed over donations from the regency to the area to develop mosque and Islamic school facilities.

East Kutai is rich with mineral resources. (*)
