EBTKE, NEDO to sign MoU on smart communities

The energy and mineral resources ministry?s directorate general of new and renewable energy and energy conservation (EBTKE) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the new energy and industrial technology development organization of Japan (NEDO) to realize a demonstration project for smart communities in the industrial estate of Suryacipta City in Karawang, West Java .

New and Renewable Energy and Conservation Director General Rida Mulyana said that the signing of the MoU will be conducted on Monday, 15th July 2013.

"This bilateral cooperation will also involve private companies, Sumitomo Corp, Mitsubishi Electric, Fuji Electric, NTT Communications, PT Suryacipta Swadaya, and the Indonesian state utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara,? Rida Mulyana told Petromindo.com in Jakarta on Friday.

Rida noted that through the demonstration project, which is the first in Asian region, they will promote the smart communities as a model for a smart and ecological industrial estate.

The demonstration project will feature three main technologies. The first one is the technology for stabilizing electricity quality, consisting of a distribution automation system (DAS), uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system, and a equipment to stabilize installed voltage.

The second one is an energy management system to monitor the energy conservation and regulating demand and supply , by applying the demand side management system (DSM) to control power demand, in combination with the factory energy management system (FEMS/ EMS ).

The third one is ICT platform as common base, a high quality infrastructure to be implemented in an industrial estate, to build the information communication technology (ICT) platform for the realization of technology for stabilizing electricity quality and energy conservation.
