French engineering and consulting firm Egis has been appointed to carry out a technical assessment of the powerhouse facility at the Belawan New Container Terminal (BNCT) in North Sumatra, as part of efforts to improve operational resilience at the port.
BNCT, located along the Malacca Strait, is operated by a consortium comprising DP World, Pelindo and the Indonesia Investment Authority. The terminal plays a key role in regional and international trade flows.
The powerhouse facility supports core terminal operations and is considered critical to maintaining reliability across port infrastructure.

Under the mandate, Egis will evaluate the current condition of the facility and develop recommendations to support long-term performance and sustainability. The scope includes soil investigations to assess subsurface conditions and the use of non-destructive testing methods to analyze structural materials without interrupting operations.
Managing Director Egis Indonesia Remon Moerman said the assignment reflects the company’s continued involvement in infrastructure development in Indonesia, particularly in the maritime sector.
Project Director Ferdinand Marterer said the assessment will combine geotechnical and structural analysis to address both immediate and long-term requirements of the facility.
Egis said the work is intended to support the durability and efficiency of port operations, as Indonesia seeks to strengthen infrastructure along one of the world’s busiest shipping routes.
