El Paso certain to buy LNG from Pertamina

U.S. oil and gas firm El Paso is certain to purchase LNG from the state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, according to a source.

The source told Petromindo.com that El Paso officials had came to Pertamina headquarters last week to extend their seriousness in purchasing the Indonesian LNG for its four upcoming new terminals.

The source said that El Paso?s long term purchase plan would consist of 1.9 million ton per annum (MTPA) for the Cove Point terminal (early 2002), 2.8 MTPA for the Altmira terminal (early 2004), and 1-4.8 MTPA for the Baja terminal (early 2005).

The short-term purchase plan would include a 1.9 MTPA for the Cove Point terminal (after 2002), and 0.6 MTPA for the Lake Charles terminal (2003-2007).

Reports earlier said that Pertamina was in talks with El Paso to supply the U.S. LNG market.(Godang).
