EMP?s Kangean oilfields to commence production in 2006

Upstream oil and gas authority BPMIGAS said on Thursday it had approved plan of development (PoD) on two marginal oil fields in Energi Mega Persada-operated Kangean offshore Block, East Java.

BPMIGAS exploration division head Ahmad Lutfi told Petromindo.Com that BPMIGAS had approved PoDs of Sepanjang and North Pagerungan. According to the PoD Sepanjang, which has recoverable oil reserves of 5.8 million barrels will produce at peak rate of 3,400 BOPD from 4 wells for 7 years. North Pagerungan, which has 5.7 million barrels of recoverable reserves, will produce at peak rate of 4,400 BOPD from 4 wells for 7 years.

BPMIGAS deputy chairman in charge of planning Zanial Ahmad said that both fields were expected to come onstream in the second half of 2006.

JSX-listed Energi Mega Persada which holds 100 percent working interest in the block is also commencing S275 million project to develop its Terang Sirasun Batur gas field in the block that will flow 300MMCFD of gas to industrial province of East Java in 2008. (godang)
