Employees of PT Thiess Contractor Indonesia seek help from local parliament

Some 20 employees of PT Thiess Contractor Indonesia came to the headquarters of the Pasir regency legislative council in East Kalimantan on Friday to seek help from the lawmakers, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.

The paper said that the 20 employees represented some 262 workers facing dismissal threat from Thies, the contractor of coal mining giant PT Arutmin Indonesia.

The employees were received by Usman Mase, head of the council?s commission E on mining affairs. Usman agreed to help resolve the dispute between the employees and Thiess.

The employees had demanded Thiess to pay a higher compensation for extra working hours. But the company instead, threatened the employees to be dismissed if they continued on strike. The employees were given until October 6 to decide whether to leave the company or continue working as usual.(*)
