Employees stage demonstration in front of NNT Mataram office

Dozens of employees of gold and copper mining company PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT)on Monday held a demonstration again in front of the company's branch office in Mataram.

They staged the protest despite an earlier decision by the Nusa Tenggara Barat legislative council suggesting the company to immediately pay higher overtime compensation as demanded by the protesting workers. The councilors also suggested NNT to drop its administrative sanction against the protesting employees.

But the employees said they planned to held a four-day strike in front of the Mataram office until the management realize the demand. The protesters had set up tents and display posters.

One protesting employee said that they had to continue the demonstration despite the good news from the legislative council because the NNT management had often lied to them.
