Some 25 employees of PT Batubara Bukit Kendi (BBK), a subsidiary of state-owned coal mining firm PT Bukit Asam in South Sumatera, came to see Bukit Asam president RA Sunardi to demand a clear working status, the local Sriwijaya Post daily reported.

The paper said that the employees failed to meet Sunardi. It added that the employees threatened to take stronger action if Sunardi failed to immediately provide a clear status for them.

The protesting employees said that they represented 70 of the total 128 employees of BBK. The employees had started talks with Bukit Asam over their status since March. The employees were hired into BBK from Bukit Asam. But until now, their status is not clear whether they are still Bukit Asam employees or not. (*)
