The new plant, which has three generators units each with capacity of 60 megawatt, is part of PT Energi Sengkang?s expansion program. The company also operates the Block 1 plant, which has three generator units, each with a capacity of 45 MW
The electricity from the power plant is supplied through state power company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi (Sultanbatara).
?This means South Sulawesi will have a reserve of around 400 MW of power,? said the general manager of PLN?s branch Judi Winardi Widjaya, at the launch of the Sengkang Block 2 PLTGU in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Monday.
With the inclusion of the Sengkang Block 2 power plant in the South and West Sulawesi interconnection power network, the PLN?s power capacity would reach around 1,300 MW compared to its current output of around 1,105 MW for 1.5 million customers.
Sengkang has been supplying power to PLN since 1997, via three power generators in Block 1, each with a capacity of 45 MW, or a total output of 135 MW.
Sultanbatara PLN also received power supply from several other power plants, such as the Bakaru and Poso hydro -power plants ( PLTA) and the Tello and Jeneponto coal-fired power plants (PLTU). (*)
