PT Energia Prima Nusantara (EPN), a renewable energy developer and subsidiary of PT United Tractors Tbk (IDX: UNTR), is conducting studies to develop wind power plants in several locations across Indonesia. The company aims to complete these studies by the middle of 2026.

Boy Gemino Kalauserang, Director of EPN, stated that the company is currently assessing potential sites, including areas near UNTR’s Martabe gold mine in North Sumatra and Sumbawa in West Nusa Tenggara. Wind speed measurement tools have already been installed to determine the potential electricity capacity of these locations.

“We are exploring the possibility of partnering with other companies to help build and realize this project,” Boy said in an interview with Petromindo.com on Thursday, September 25.

EPN sees significant potential in wind energy in Indonesia, which aligns with the country's energy diversification goals. Boy highlighted that wind power, along with solar and geothermal energy, is one of the promising energy sources outlined in the Indonesian National Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).

According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Indonesia has a total wind power potential of 155 GW, distributed across various regions: Sumatra (11.24 GW), Kalimantan (22.99 GW), Sulawesi (14.89 GW), Java-Bali (40.6 GW), Nusa Tenggara (16.01 GW), and Maluku-Papua (46.15 GW).

In addition to its current studies, EPN has also expressed interest in developing a wind power plant in Aceh, although details regarding the planned capacity have not been disclosed. The company is continuing its search for suitable land to develop wind energy projects in the region.

“We are still in the process of finding suitable land for wind energy projects. While we have information indicating it may be in Aceh, we are not yet able to disclose the planned capacity,” said Afrizal Faisal Ali, Business Planning & Marketing Strategy of EPN.
