The eight-member National Energy Council (DEN) agreed on the need to limit fossil-based energy exports especially coal and gas.

The meeting also agreed on draft of energy policy that would cut the use of fossil-based fuels and shifting to new and renewable energy.

The draft of energy mix policy would be submitted to the House of Representatives for approval.

Research and Technology Minister Gusti Muhammad Hatta said after the meeting that there are three articles on the draft namely the restriction of fossil-based energy exports, the overlapping land areas and the use of nuclear energy for power generation needed further approval.

During the meeting, the council focused on its deliberation on the restriction of coal and gas exports and on the deadline on when exports of coal and gas should be totally stopped. ?The main issue is about export restriction. It should be well formulated so that it will not become a time bomb when it is put into implementation,? he added.

The draft on the national energy policy will be submitted to the House of Representatives for approval.(*)
