Energy Equity seeks a longer contract for its Sengkang gas field

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said that he had received a proposal for the extension of the contract awarded to Australian company Energy Equity Epic Sengkang Pty Ltd to operate the Sengkang gas field in South Sulawesi, Koran Tempo reported on Monday.
The Australian company?s 30-year contract to operate the 3,470.19 sq kilometer gas block, which was signed in October 24, 1970, was extended for another 20 years in October 24, 2000 to last until 2020. But the company applied through BPMIGAS to prolong the contract for another three years to 2023.
Purnomo said that he had received the proposal from BPMIGAS about the extension of the contract. But the minister said that the company proposed the extension of the contract for two years not three years as reported. (*)
